The 2023 NDIS Review introduced “foundational supports” to bridge gaps between NDIS-funded and mainstream services. Ongoing consultations are seeking community input on the structure and role of these supports. You can join a survey on Foundational Supports by the National Ethnic Disability Alliance, to share how foundational supports would improve your life as a CALD person with disability, family member, or carer. It is important that disabled people and children from CALD communities have their say in how they can be best supported.
Have Your Say – Foundational Supports
The Australian Government is creating a new sstem of disability supports called “foundational supports”. These will be available outside the NDIS, and they aim to fill gaps in existing services for people who may not be eligible for the NDIS . The National Ethnic Disability Alliance (NEDA) want to understand the experiences of people with disability from CaLD backgrounds, their families and carers, and people from migrant and refugee backgrounds. This will help us advocate for foundational supports that meet the needs of those we represent.
Why Foundational Supports Matter
Foundational supports are important because they make sure all people with disability have access to the help they need. This will cover areas like:
- Daily Living: Support with everyday tasks and activities.
- Community Access: Support to participate fully in your community.
- Skill Building: Opportunities to learn and grow the way you want.
